With respect, as a past programmer I would feel bound to say that writing your own Access database system to manage a private book collection of only books could well be an academic exercise in futility - a bit like designing a better mousetrap. So, hold onto your cash and make the most of your cognitive surplus by avoiding getting bogged down in an Access or other database development. You can get some really good, FREE library and reference management systems that are instantly ready to roll and will even go and grab the metadata of your books off conventional library and research functions on the Internet.
I have already trialled the first two software items and found them to be excellent at what they do. I am currently trialling Zotero, which seems to me to be a very stable product and also good at what it does, though I haven't fathomed out the half of what it does yet. Was this reply helpful? I cannot find either a book detailing how to write a template specifically for this purpose, or a template that I can adjust for this purpose.
